Black Ops was my first long-term exposure to the COD franchise. I quickly got up to speed that the lackluster single-player campaign mode was offset by the amazing online multiplayer modes. Learning that the next COD, Modern Warfare 3, would not be made by the same developer, Treyarch, had me a little skeptical as my favorite feature, zombies would not be in this year’s game. But Infinity Ward has an excellent reputation, handling Activision’s cash cow game.

E3 2011 kicked “unofficially” yesterday with the press conferences by EA, Ubisoft, and of course the big console makers, Microsoft and Sony. Some call these two-hour long press conferences overblown and dull, but what they do is set the stage and tone for what we can expect gaming industry to unveil during the show.

Activision just released a new map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops with “First Strike” First Strike adds a total of five new maps to Call of Duty, with four new multiplayer maps along with a new map for my personal favorite game mode in Black Ops, the addictive Zombies.
New maps for Black Ops include “Berlin Wall”, layout set around the infamous barrier in Germany; “Stadium”, a smaller, fast-paced map set in the backdrop of a sports complex which should generate lots of close-quarters combat; “Discovery”, a snow filled maps (one of my favorite types of maps) at an abandoned German Antarctica outpost; “Kowloon”, a map filled with dozens of high rise buildings and rooftops for snipers, set in Kowloon City, Hong Kong; and lastly the new zombie map “Ascension”, a map built around a in Cold War era cosmodrome that will has players dealing with undead Soviet soldiers and perk-stealing zombie monkeys. Glad I only buy Juggernog.
First Strike is available now for Xbox 360 for 1,200 Microsoft Points.

With so much downloadable content out there for purchase it’s cool that Activision and Coca-Cola are giving fans free DLC for DJ Hero 2.
The Tiësto Mix Pack Presented by Coca-Cola is available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the PlayStation Store and as downloadable singles for Wii for free from November 23 through November 29.

In 2006, Capcom released Dead Rising exclusively for the Xbox 360. While it borrowed heavily from the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, they really expanded their brand of survival horror by taking zombies and blending them into a game centered on equal parts comedy and horror. Dead Rising 2 doesn’t just greatly expand on this, but fixes all the glaring faults from the first release.

Harmonix confirmed what many have been anticipating for quite sometime. This week more Jimi Hendrix music is making its way to Rock Band. Pushing the catalog to over 2,000 available songs, titles from The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s album Are You Experienced? will drop October 12th.

Today Microsoft revealed one of the worst kept secrets in the gaming industry in the pricing for the groundbreaking Kinect (formerly Project Natal).
Gamers will have two options to experience connect:
The all-new Xbox 360 4GB console, the revolutionary Kinect sensor and “Kinect Adventures” packaged together for $299.99. Or if a bundle is not your thing then you can purchase Kinect sensor with “Kinect Adventures” for $149.99. The sensor will work with each of the 40 million Xbox 360 consoles currently in households worldwide.
The new Xbox 360 4GB will also be released on August 3rd for $199.99
Kinect is a cool toy to have but it’s nothing without the games. So 15 games will be available at launch including “Kinectimals,” “Kinect Sports,” “Kinect Joy Ride” and MTV Games’ and Harmonix’s “Dance Central” will retail for $49.99.

During Super Bowl weekend in South Florida, eight NFL superstars, including Chad Ochocinco (Cincinnati Bengals), Chris Johnson (Tennessee Titans), Percy Harvin (Minnesota Vikings), Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars), Miles Austin (Dallas Cowboys), Jared Allen (Minnesota Vikings), Santonio Holmes (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Patrick Willis (San Francisco 49ers) went head-to-head on Xbox 360 at Madden Bowl XVI.
Maurice Jones-Drew won the Madden Bowl Cup by defeating Patrick Willis of the San Francisco 49ers in the final round.
