If you are a boxing fan or a fan of west coast rap you have most likely seen the Oakland USA hoodie. Crafted by Dope Only, the Oakland, USA hoodie and tee are a symbol of pride for those who call or have called the small city by the bay home.

“It is meant to symbolize togetherness and an external love for the place we call home,” says Dope Only CEO Rod Campbell.

The hoodies are available here in a variety of colors.

Two X Tech N9ne

October 14th, 2010

TechNine

Tech N9ne and the Strange Music camp have been quietly accumulating fans and paper on the underground scene for years now. The brand is built as much on integrity as it is good music so  its no wonder that Tech’s endorsements have been few and far between.

Tech’s first fashion collaboration to our knowledge is coming with another underground yet popular company, T.I.T.S. Both brands do their numbers but you won’t find them in the mainstream, which makes this a perfect partnership.

Stay tuned for more news from  the upcoming Tech N9ne X Two in the Shirt collection.

In its fifth year, Hennessy Artistry is an exclusive five-city tour that blends the best in music, culture, and art.  The tour touched down in LA on Wednesday night with Q-tip the Abstract serving as curator and performer for the evening. In addition to rocking many old school ATCQ classics, he also introduced new comer, V.V. Brown, who killed it with her ubiquitous single Shark in the Water and a Q-tip collabo. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better than resident DJ, D-nice on the tables, MC Lyte performed “Paper Thin,” and Ice Cube hit the stage and shut it down for a hot 20 minutes.

L-R-G X Duck Down

October 8th, 2010

DDLRG

Duck Down and L-R-G have been down (no pun intended) with each other over the majority of the life of both brands. With DD turning 15-years-old it makes perfect sense for the Lifted ones to pay tribute to the house Buck and Dru built.

The navy blue hoodie which features both the DD and L-R-G logos is a throwback to the days when the clothing brand was one of the hottest and most innovative on the market. Fans can cop the hoodie for $65 on Duck Down’s East Coast Tour stops or here.

Snoop Dogg x Upper Playground

SnoopTees_ALL

Snoop Dogg’s first and second foray into the fashion business were about as bad a rapper lines can get but that does not mean he doesn’t deserve another shot. This time the Dogg has teamed up with Upper Playground to drop a mini-collection of t-shirts. Inspired by Snoop’s “Gin and Juice” song and video and designed by Undrcrwn head Dustin Canalin, the collection is currently available here in limited quantities.

Converse Enlists Jim Jones & Doug E. Fresh

Who says new cats don’t pay homage to their predecessors? The newest Converse marketing campaign dispells that belief. The higher ups at the brand have recruited the award winning filmmaker Antoine Fuqua to direct the commercials from ”The Procession” campaign. The brand has always been about progressive culture in general, but for this go round they’ve enlisted: Julius “Dr. J” Erving; Carlos Arroyo of the Miami Heat; hip hop stars Jim Jones and Doug E Fresh; legendary ball-handler god Shammgod and Harlem streetball player Adrian “A-Butta” Walton; Converse skaters Kenny Anderson, Sammy Baca, Rune Glifberg and Eli Reed.

The point of the campaign is to highlight the “old school” players passing the baton on to these newcomers. According to the Converse CMO Geoff Cottrill, ”The new Converse campaign is the perfect summary of who we are as a brand. It’s a celebration of people from different cultures who are passionate about what they do, coming together to create a movement. Converse is a brand that can authentically blend culture in a way that makes perfect sense for how people view and connect to sport, music and culture today – without lines or barriers.”

Fuqua, the mastermind behind cinematic goodies such as Training Day and more recently Brooklyn’s Finest, has done his duty in bringing the attitude of street culture to the small screen. He was noted as saying: “[Basketball]…it’s like a ritual. The basketball being the thing that brings everybody [together]. The rhythm and the beat. Converse is taking it to the streets. The streets are the heart beat.” –N. Graham
