Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock

Activision

(Xbox 360/Playstation 3/Wii)

7 .0 out of 10.0

The sixth main installment in the highly popular series is arguably its most risky one, too. Warriors of Rock challenges pop-culture and the rhythm-game fans by giving us a whole slab of hard-rocking, metal-moshing, punk-sporting rock tracks that differ from what we’ve become accustomed to by the likes of Band Hero and the other recent Guitar Hero attempts. In a way, they’re giving hardcore fans what they want, but at the expense of alienating a majority of their consumers that make up their sales charts.

Graphically, they hold a major advantage over their main rival – Rock Band. Warriors of Rock boast heavily updated character models for all characters, not just the main rocker. Add in some awesome transformations that each character undergoes when you finish their set list with enough stars, and you have a great range of really cool looking characters.

EA Sports MMA X Sherdog

October 11th, 2010

eamma

EA Sports MMA and Sherdog.com have partnered  for a unique fighting initiative called Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange. Similar to the EA Sports MMA career mode where virtual fighters travel the globe learning new fighting styles from Randy Couture, Pat Miletich, Rickson Gracie and Bas Rutten, the MMA Fighter Exchange pairs four young fighters with Strikeforce vets Luke Rockhold, Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. The fighters will train in Brazil, Japan and the United States.

Sherdog.com will be providing blog and vlog coverage on each fighter. After the young bucks complete training they will  have their debut at the December 4th Strikeforce event. The fighters preliminary bouts will be streamed live on Sherdog.com.

This is a pretty cool partnership that of course will remind MMA fans of UFC’s Ultimate Fighter show but the travel to different countries to learn different disciplines first hand provides a different interesting angle that UF does not have.

EA Sports MMA hits stores on October 19th.

The Gaming World According to C-Rose

It’s been a while since I last spoke. A lot has changed in the world. The Lakers won – We lost MJ and then there was E3. It’s interesting that these events all had one thing in common – downtown LA. Between the Staples Center and the LA Convention Center LA has been the center of the world for the last month or so….

There’s a lot that happened at E3 but I’m sure most of you have read about it by now, everything from Project NATAL by Xbox to the new lineup of titles for PS3 and innovative titles like DJ Hero and the must have-Modern Warfare 2.

But, if you’re looking for something to play RIGHT NOW you need to get with Fight Night, Round 4. This game is simple goodness. I recommend giving Tyson a try.

Also, another highly anticipated title is Left 4 Dead 2 by Valve. There’s been some controversy in the blogosphere about this being a weak expansion of the original L4D but I disagree, the game is simple and plain fun, gather up and kill some zombies (and make sure you stay together)-that’s it. There’s nothing much to really innovate on that concept – just to enjoy.

BTW, I want for this to be an interactive conversation so I look forward to your comments and questions about the gaming industry. Is anyone out there looking for the new DirectX 11 cards? Will you upgrade to Windows 7? Do you play Casual Games? If so with your spouse or parents? Let me know.
