Women Have The Best #NFLfanSTYLE

The year is now in what sports fans call the sweet spot. The NBA has begun, an MLB champion has been crowned, college football playoff rankings have been released and most importantly (for most of us), the NFL is in full swing. We now know enough about each team to separate the contenders from the pretenders. Whatever side your favorite team falls on, as a real fan, you should still represent.

What better way to pledge your allegiance to your squad than by wearing the shield and colors on your chest? A few weeks ago we covered how guys can show their fandom without looking like a slouch. Today we’ll take a look at how women can do the same.

For years the fashion industry’s answer to producing NFL fashion for women was to “pink it and shrink it” (I didn’t come up with that, the credit goes to Carl Banks). Thankfully it dawned on the NFL about a decade ago that women are the fastest growing demographic in the sport and they too desire variety. As time went on the league has increased that fashion presence to include many trendy pieces.

For five years strong,  the “Together We Make Football” campaign has shown women how they can integrate NFL apparel into their everyday fashion choices. This year the campaign includes a wide variety of celebs and friends of the NFL including supermodel Erin Heatherton, NFL Network’s Molly Qerim, Dallas Cowboys executive Charlotte Jones Anderson, Actress Dania Ramirez and more.

Fans can get in on this as well by taking images of themselves in their favorite NFL gear and posting the shots on their social media channels with the @NFLfanSTYLE hashtag. Also be sure to follow that hashtag to get in on the conversation and see how fans from all over the world express their NFL style.

The name of the game this year is versatility. Ladies (or guys looking for gift ideas) can take a look at NFLShop.com and see a bunch of different looks ranging from bold graphic tops to high fashion looks.

NFL Fashion Extends Far Beyond Jerseys

Football is about so much more than what happens on the gridiron. As any fan knows, a true passion for the game extends to every facet of one’s life including their closet. Wearing your teams colors and logo used to consist of rocking a jersey on game day but those days have passed. NFL fashion has blossomed into so many different avenues of fashion that both men and women have a plethora of officially licensed clothing and accessories to choose from.

In order to push this initiative, The NFL is launching the first ever digital NFL Hall of Fashion where fans can submit their personal #NFLfanSTYLE photos on Instagram for a chance to be featured on the @NFLfanSTYLE’s Instagram page. Search the hashtag and you’ll see hundreds of fans—including yours truly (@brandenlsk) showing their team pride.

Earlier this week the first NFL Hall of Fashion event took place in New York City to celebrate this year’s fashion trends and the latest in NFL fan style. The New York Jets QB, Geno Smith, Bev Smith, Jordin Sparks and more attended the star-studded party. In addition to rubbing elbows with the stars, partygoers also learned how to create unique and customizable looks for all shapes and sizes with NFL Apparel courtesy of looks curated by Phillip Bloch (Creative Style Director for NFL Women’s Apparel) and Rachel Johnson (Style Strategist for NFL Men’s Apparel).

We will get into the great things Bloch is doing with the NFL women’s apparel in an upcoming post, but since Kuhvet is primarily geared towards the fellas, we’ll use this post to tackle the new and fresh things NFL apparel is doing on the men’s side of things.

Since Jay-Z killed the throwback jersey with one line on his hit “Change Clothes,” wearing jerseys as a fashion statement became passé. Fast forward to 2014 and the jersey trend is creeping back into the mainstream in a not so baggy form. However, there are t-shirts, crewnecks, hats, vests and other outerwear that is suited for repping your team of choice outside of the confines of a Sunday afternoon.

The NFL set out to prove that point by shooting a slick campaign of guys wearing NFL apparel on the streets of Harlem. WWE Announces New Network at CES 2014

CES is officially over and WWE Network pulled off one of the biggest announcements of the 2014 show. Although the WWE Network announcement was among the worst kept secrets of the week, the nationally televised press conference did manage enough star power (DX, Cena, Stone Cold) and surprise announcements to warrant all the pomp and circumstance.

There is no need to breakdown the evenings events. If you’re reading this, you were most likely there or you saw it on USA Network. Instead, here are our thoughts on the upcoming network.

The $9.99 per month price (with 6 month agreement) is killer, especially considering all of the content WWE will be providing once the Network launches in late February. Original programming (Live Daily Studio Show, Countdown, Monday Night Wars, Legends House, etc.) 12 PPV specials, an archive of 300+ PPV’s plus tons of archived shows, and pre and post Raw and Smackdown shows for under $10 a month is mind-blowing. Compare that with UFC Fight Pass, which is the same price but offers no PPV’s. WWE clearly won here.

When two unproven television guys like Diddy and Magic got a cable network before WWE did, the righting was on the wall. Props to Vince and his company for going outside the box (or as they would say Over The Top) and taking their Network idea mobile.  Thanks to Hulu, Netflix, Roku and the like, the way we watch our programming has changed and being able to access all of the WWE 720 HD programming on phones, tablets, laptops, gaming systems (we really need Microsoft to step it up with Xbox One btw) and more is a coup for the network.

WWE had to be losing a crap load of money due to so many of their fans watching PPV’s on illegal streaming sites. This move should cut into that tremendously. If the user interface and sign up is as simple as they say it will be, even pedestrian wrestling fans will be dropping that monthly dough to see what WWE has to offer from yesterday, today and tomorrow.

WWE Network launches on February 24th after Monday Night Raw goes off the air at 11:05pm EST.

Arby’s Foundation and the Atlanta Falcons partner to Kick Hunger

The Falcons are having a disappointing season but even if the points they’ve scored haven’t added up to many victories, those points are helping the community. The “Kicking Hunger” program donates one hundred dollars to the Arby’s Foundation all season long for each field goal and extra point scored by the Falcons.

The funds raised through the “Kicking Hunger” program are used by the Arby’s Foundation to further support their investment in the Georgia Food Bank Association (GFBA). In 2013, the Arby’s Foundation announced a $3 million, three year investment to broaden the work of the GFBA’s “Feeding for a Promising Future – No Kid Hungry” campaign.

Arby’s Foundation and the Falcons shared a couple gift bags with us to share with Kuhvet.com readers. The bags include a Tony Gonzales glass, Arby’s hat and $10 Arby’s gift card. Leave a comment on the post and we’ll pick two winners on December 27th.

adidas Mutumbo December Drop

A few days ago adidas sent out a teaser image with only a date and Mutumbo on it. For some reason we assumed it was eluding to something bigger than a new colorway, considering a couple have dropped since the initial August re-release. Oh well, the black and white color is pretty fly.

Supra Skytop IV Coming Black Friday

The Skytop III was less than well-received by some Supra die hards. Chad Muska’s latest iteration of the flagship shoe will most likely fair much better considering it takes several nods from the successful first and second Skytop shoes. The initial IV features black waxed suede will be released on Black Friday at retailers and suprafootwear.com. Although they are very stylish, Supra’s are at the end of the day a skate shoe so the functional details must be right. Those include short eye stay with a long, clean vamp, 
ribbed padding on an extra tall tongue and heel inset, black TPR inset pad that accepts pyramid rivets for affixing removable padded shroud (shroud is available for holiday styles only), 
industrial-style arm bar with hexagonal rivet detail and durable red heel pull
Padded red and grey mesh lining.

Undrcrwn Philippines Relief Snapback

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve seen or heard about the devastation that the strongest typhoon on record has caused in the Philippines. Undrcrwn founder Dustin Canalin is Filipino and he’s doing his part to raise funds for Haiyan relief via this dope Philippines snapback hat. 100% of proceeds go to Philippines Red Cross. The hat is currently available for pre-order and will ship by December 16th.

Reebok Classic “Pump Omni Lite” Re-release Date

If you missed out on the June release of the classic Reebok Pump that Dee Brown made famous in the 1991 NBA Dunk Contest, you’re in luck. On December 2nd, Reebok will re-release the shoe on December 2nd  for $115 on select online retailers including jimmyjazz.com, RUVilla.com and reebok.com.

Stance x NBA Holiday Drop

Stance NBA Legends collection was very well received when they dropped a few months back. Today the sock company has added LA Clippers and New York Knicks logo socks to The Hardwood Classics Collection as well as six socks showcasing classic ballers Domonique Wilkins, Shawn Kemp, NY Knicks Charles Oakley/John Starks, Pistons Isaiah Thomas/Bill Lambeer and Penny/Shaq and the recently retired Allen Iverson.

The Stance Legends Collection reboot will probably sell out quickly so cop soon at Stance retailers for $16.
